Your adventure begins at 08:30 as you depart Ouarzazate and head south, crossing the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass in the scenic Anti-Atlas Mountains toward Agdez. As you descend, the breathtaking vista of the oasis unfolds before you, with expansive palm groves stretching along the Dra’a Valley. This fertile area is home to 44 varieties of dates, and if you’re lucky, you may catch the harvest season, which begins in September and lasts for a couple of months, offering an opportunity to purchase the freshest dates.

Next, you’ll veer off the main road, following the historic caravan route. Your first stop is the village of Tinsouline, where a short off-road detour will lead you to the fascinating Foum Chenna rock carvings. These 4,000-year-old depictions of animals that once roamed Morocco provide a glimpse into the region’s ancient past.

Continuing onward, you will reach Zagora, the largest town in the area, where you’ll pause for a delicious lunch. Before leaving, take a moment to admire the panoramic view of the vast Zagora oasis from a small pass, a perfect photo opportunity.

In the afternoon, your journey continues south to M’hamid, the gateway to the desert. Here, the paved road ends, marking the beginning of the Sahara. You’ll embark on a camel ride to your luxurious desert camp, where you’ll experience a magical desert sunset.

After a hearty dinner, immerse yourself in the desert’s enchanting atmosphere with nomadic music around the campfire. As the stars twinkle above, you can use a stargazing app on your phone to identify constellations.

Your night will be spent at a lavish desert camp, offering a private bathroom, king-sized beds, and beautifully designed Moroccan furnishings and lamps, creating a tranquil environment to fully appreciate the serene beauty of the dunes.

Following your walk, you’ll rejoin the paved road and head north toward the village of Tamegroute. Here, you’ll visit the renowned pottery cooperatives, famous for their distinctive green-glazed pottery, which can be found throughout southern Morocco and in Marrakech. Touring these workshops is a fascinating experience, as you’ll see how local clay is skillfully crafted into beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces, showcasing the rich artisanal heritage of the region.

Tamegroute is also home to a small, winding medina and an ancient Quranic library, where you can marvel at exquisite hand-written Arabic texts. For those interested in history and culture, the library is a must-visit.

Your journey continues as you head north to Kasbah Tamnougalte, located just outside Agdez. This historic kasbah, one of the oldest in southern Morocco and the oldest in the Dra’a Valley, offers a glimpse into the past. While some parts of the kasbah are still inhabited, others—such as the abandoned Jewish quarter—stand as silent witnesses to its rich history.

Finally, you’ll make your way back on the paved road, crossing the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and arrive in Ouarzazate by late afternoon. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel, where your unforgettable Saharan adventure concludes.
