Essential Information for Your Merzouga  Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your accommodation or Marrakech Airport, holding a sign with your name for a warm welcome. Your adventure begins as you depart the vibrant Red City, journeying into the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m).

As you ascend, marvel at the picturesque Berber villages nestled into the mountainsides, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s rich cultural heritage. During winter, melting snow creates stunning waterfalls, while the landscape is adorned with lush conifers, almond trees, and palm groves. Along the way, take a refreshing break to enjoy a glass of traditional mint tea, embracing the tranquility of the surroundings.

Your next stop is the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a striking mud-brick village that has served as the backdrop for Hollywood epics such as Gladiator, Babel, and Lawrence of Arabia. After exploring its ancient alleyways, enjoy a delicious lunch in the village before continuing your journey.

In the afternoon, travel along the legendary Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing through dramatic desert landscapes on your way to the enchanting Dades Valley. Upon arrival, settle into a charming Riad or hotel, where you will be treated to a flavorful Moroccan dinner before unwinding for a peaceful overnight stay.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert Camp

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through the stunning Dades Valley, making your way to the breathtaking Todra Gorges. Take a refreshing walk through the gorge, where crystal-clear water flows from its natural spring.

Following lunch, continue your journey toward Merzouga, passing through the historic towns of Rissani and Erfoud. Upon arrival, set off on a mesmerizing camel ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, reaching your luxury or standard desert camp just in time to witness the magical desert sunset.

At the camp, indulge in an authentic Moroccan dinner and immerse yourself in the enchanting rhythms of traditional Saharan music performed by local Berber musicians around a glowing campfire. As night falls, gaze up at the vast desert sky, admiring the countless stars and spotting shooting stars before retreating to your comfortable tent for a restful night in the heart of the Sahara.

Day 3: Erg Chebbi – Draa Valley – Saghro Mountains – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

If you wake up early, you’ll have the chance to witness a breathtaking Sahara sunrise, where the shifting colors of the dunes and the play of shadows create an unforgettable spectacle.

After breakfast, we begin our journey back west towards the Draa Valley, traveling along the rugged Saghro Mountains—a region known for its arid landscapes and low seasonal rainfall. Along the way, we pass through Alnif, a village featured in the film Babel, and N’Qob, where we’ll stop for lunch with stunning mountain views.

In the afternoon, we continue to Tansikht, a village on the banks of the Draa River. The Draa Valley is a striking region filled with ancient kasbahs, lush palm groves, and a rich historical legacy. Following the ancient caravan route, once used to transport goods from Timbuktu, we make our way north towards Agdz, an important stop on the historic Saharan trade route.

Our journey then takes us across the Ait Saoun Pass (1,650m), offering stunning panoramic views as we descend towards Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara. From here, we continue over the High Atlas Mountains, retracing the scenic route back to Marrakech.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Marrakech, where your driver will escort you to your Riad or hotel, marking the end of your unforgettable 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert tour.
